Did you ever have a coach or a teacher put their arm around you and tell you how wonderful you did EVEN if you didn’t win or get the highest score?
When I was in 8th grade I got an award for leadership on my track team and to this day I can remember how that made me feel. Our track team lost that day but my coach made me feel like a winner. We had lost a relay race that I wasn’t even supposed to be running in but my coach had faith in my heart and my effort. And he let me know it.
Your family is like that. They will remember the times you “picked them up” far more than the times you hung an award on the fridge. Sometimes it’s not what you say as much as how and when you say it that matters most.
